What is TDEE Calculator
TDEE stands for to total daily energy expenditure which means the total energy a person consumes during a day when exercise is taken into account. It is calculated from three factors:
Basil Metabolic Rate (BMR)
BMR is the rate of energy during rest time when digestive system is inactive. Basically, the minimum energy needed to maintain vital organs of the human body.
Activity Level
It determines the number of calories burnt when a person is performing an activity such as sports, exercise, walking, jogging etc.
Thermic Effect of Food
It is the amount of energy required to process or use the food intake. Some foods have a high thermic effect such as protein-rich foods have a higher thermic effect than dietary fat since it is difficult to process.
How TDEE is calculated?
TDEE calculator works based on the factors above. First BMR is calculated based on age, gender, weight and height. Once BMR is calculated, it is multiplied by an activity level you select depending upon how active you are in a week. Another factor can be the thermic effect of food although it is not considered in the above calculation as it is only a small percentage as compared to the activity level and BMR.
